Abstract submissions accepted from Nov. 1, 2026, to Feb. 1, 2027

The American Medical Association, Mayo Clinic and Stanford Medicine invite leading researchers to submit an abstract for our upcoming conference!

The theme for this year’s conference, “Human by design: Driving innovation for a thriving healthcare system,” explores how human-centered approaches can foster an innovative, supportive health system—improving physician satisfaction and delivering better patient care. Through leadership, collaboration, cultural wellness, operational redesign and effective use of technology, we can empower physicians to succeed in all aspects of their professional lives and cultivate a health system where both care teams and patients thrive.

The American Conference on Physician Health™ provides a platform for healthcare professionals to connect, share exciting research findings and explore educational programs that nurture physician well-being. The conference fosters a welcoming, informal environment that encourages networking, peer-to-peer learning and interactive activities centered on prioritizing physician health.

We invite submissions that address physician burnout, professional fulfillment and satisfaction, or mental and physical health in one of the following areas:

  • Leadership engagement and driving change at scale: highlights the importance of empowering leaders to support and sustain well-being initiatives throughout the organization at every level.
  • Integration of well-being with organizational priorities: focuses on aligning well-being initiatives with the organization’s strategic priorities, exploring the relationship between the Quadruple Aim (clinical outcomes, patient experience, quality and retention) and its impact on overall performance.
  • Personal well-being strategies: identifies approaches that directly support the individual, including access to coaching, peer support, professional development, mental health resources, reflective practices, compassion-building skills and strategies that help individuals sustain meaning, connection and professional fulfillment within demanding work environments.
  • Creating a culture of well-being and trust: emphasizes the importance of empowering physician voices, promoting agency, bridging the trust gap and addressing issues of moral injury, highlighting the need for supportive institutional practices that prioritize both individual and organizational well-being.
  • Technology and workflow optimization: showcases the strategic use of technology to enhance operational efficiency, reduce administrative burdens and foster physician well-being.

Abstracts should present actionable solutions and interventions that drive meaningful improvements in physician well-being. We especially encourage submissions that employ rigorous research methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative or survey research. Workshops should equip attendees with practical skills to advance physician well-being. Abstracts focused on improving the learning environment for medical students, residents or fellows are also welcomed.

NOTE: There will be no virtual presentations for this conference. By submitting, you agree to present in person during the conference dates of Oct. 14–16, 2027, if accepted.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

We invite two types of presentation formats for submission:

  1. Abstracts
    1. Research abstracts: completed studies/investigations with measurable results (data) contributing to the existing knowledge on physician well-being.
    2. Innovation abstracts: completed programs, projects or approaches, preferably with measurable results, that highlight innovative practices or practical applications of physician well-being strategies.

All abstracts must clearly outline the following components: background, objectives, methods, results and significance.

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific merit
  • Quality
  • Original contribution to knowledge
  • Relevance to the audience and conference theme

NOTE: Selected abstracts may be presented as either an oral presentation (up to 20 minutes with an additional five minutes for Q&A) or in poster format. You may indicate your preferred format during the submission process.

  1. Workshops
    1. Skill building, interactive sessions designed to improve knowledge among attendees focused on physician well-being. An exclusive lecture or presentation-based format is not suitable for workshop submissions.

Each workshop will be 60 minutes, with the last 10–15 minutes reserved for questions and discussion. Workshop submissions must include a detailed session plan and timeline, along with a description that highlights the session’s interactive, hands-on nature. Presenters should outline their strategies for engaging the audience throughout the workshop.

Both research and non-research workshop submissions are encouraged. All submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Workshop design (method of delivery, including group work, design of the workshop and expected outcomes)
  • Originality
  • Relevance to the audience and conference theme

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All submissions must be 400 words or fewer and will undergo a blinded peer review process. Abstracts submitted without using the ACPH 2027 abstract template (Word document) will not be considered.

ACPH 2027 abstract submission templates:

Please list all authors/co-authors with the abstract or workshop submission. All correspondence will be directed to the corresponding/submitting author only.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the online abstract submission portal (link to come).

The submission deadline is Feb. 1, 2027 (11:59 p.m. Central time). Corresponding authors will be notified by early May 2027 regarding the acceptance of their abstracts. PowerPoint presentations are encouraged, and standard equipment (such as an LCD projector, screen and audio-video connections) will be available at the conference. Provisions for any non-standard presentation equipment will be provided by the presenter at their own expense.

PLEASE NOTE: All selected presenters are expected to register for the conference themselves at the AMA member rate and will be responsible for their own conference-related expenses.

For all accepted abstracts, only one registration slot (for the corresponding author/submitter) will be held per abstract, regardless of the number of authors. Additional authors are advised to register early to secure their registration.
